“Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him. Then these men said, “We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.” Daniel 6:4-5
How do we live in the world? Can it be said of us by our co-workers, governmental officials, teachers, or our parents, that they can find no ground for complaint against us? This should be the mark of a Christian; a Christ-follower. We are to abide by all the rules of the land, and be an exemplary citizen, culpable only when their command opposes the laws of God. We are to obey God, of course, as the highest authority, but under Him, as Peter writes in 1 Peter 2:12-25:
Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 1 Peter 2:13-16
Peter's message here, echoing the teachings of Jesus, (Luke 20:25) Paul (Romans 13:1-8), and the lives of many godly men before him, (Joseph: Genesis 39:2-4, Job: Job 1:8) is simple: Let your actions, as well as your words, be your testimony that you are a Christian.
