The Deceitfulness of Riches

"And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful."
Mark 4:18-19

Russian Ruble

This 6-month graph represents hundreds of billions, if not trillions of dollars that just completely evaporated from the Russian economy. Nobody was robbed. None of the common people that are represented here made bad investments. The supporting economy just crumbled underneath the currency, and the result was extreme currency devaluation.

As I pondered this, so many truths that are written in the scriptures support the concept that anything we put value in here on earth, is going to fade away and perish.

There is much more behind the words of Jesus, when he said:

"Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed."
John 6:27

but the overwhelming point that I want to make is this: Money, wealth, gold, silver, currency, capital, real-estate, and material gain of ANY kind is temporal. It will fly away, as Solomon said of old time:

Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
Proverbs 23:7

Hold lightly to what you have on this earth, and invest in heavenly things that will not fade away.

"While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."
2 Corinthians 4:18
